The Black Giant Squirrel is one of the largest squirrels in the world. It is common to see one in Penang Hill. It is a solitary animal and is extremely shy. It leaps from branch to branch on tree tops and you can see one along Summit Road.

Its upperparts and tail are black. Its cheeks, chest, front of the forelimbs and underparts are orange. The black tail is as long as the body.
